For Barb

Of course you were ready to meet your maker
Who could have been more ready than you?
You with your quick smile and outstretched hand.
No strangers for you, just friends you hadn't yet made.

You with your zest for life, your flair for the silly, your assertive cheer,
Demanding that others enjoy life's gifts with you--
And we did.

Your Presence, with a capitol P
Was a gift to us, a joy that you brought
With your wit, your stories and laughter, your bubbles,
Your generosity of spirit, your straightforward style.

Amazing that the sun still rises and sets in your absence
Though the sun has lost some of its warmth
And the stars their sparkle

Too short, too short was our precious time with you.
We are left wanting more, but
Of course you were ready to meet your maker
And when you did, she must have been charmed
